One look at ‘Doc’ gleaming in the sun and you know it’s an extraordinary airplane.
One of 1,644 B-29s built by Boeing workers in Wichita during World War II, ‘Doc’ returned in pieces to Boeing Integrated Defense Systems in 2000 to begin a long restoration process. When complete, ‘Doc’ will be one of just two airworthy B-29s in the world.

We think it’s important that ‘Doc’ finds a home in the city where it was built. It’s a beautiful example of form and function uniting in striking aircraft design. It’s a symbol of the significant contribution Wichita and Kansas made to the successful war effort. It’s a testament to the craftsmanship of Kansas aviation workers – both when it was built in 1944 and during the nearly completed reconstruction.
But we need your help. ‘Doc’ is owned by the United States Aviation Museum in Wickliffe, Ohio, which is conducting the restoration. We must construct a permanent hangar for ‘Doc,’ and that would answer another of our critical needs – a space to display our wide range of historically significant aircraft, along with a workshop to allow continued resurrection and reconstruction of additional historic aircraft.
Please join us in this important quest. Here’s how you can help.
