Doc is Now in Temporary Storage at the Kansas Air National Guard and is Not Available for Public Viewing:

But You Can Still Help Doc Find a Home

One look at ‘Doc’ gleaming in the sun and you know it’s an extraordinary airplane.

One of 1,644 B-29s built by Boeing workers in Wichita during World War II, ‘Doc’ returned in pieces to Boeing Integrated Defense Systems in 2000 to begin a long restoration process. When complete, ‘Doc’ will be one of just two airworthy B-29s in the world.

We think it’s important that ‘Doc’ finds a home in the city where it was built. It’s a beautiful example of form and function uniting in striking aircraft design. It’s a symbol of the significant contribution Wichita and Kansas made to the successful war effort. It’s a testament to the craftsmanship of Kansas aviation workers – both when it was built in 1944 and during the nearly completed reconstruction.

But we need your help. 'Doc' is owned by the United States Aviation Museum in Wickliffe, Ohio, which is conducting the restoration. The Kansas Aviation Museum is working with the United States Aviation Museum to construct a permanent hangar. This would not only provide a home for 'Doc', but a space to display the wide range of historically significant aircraft that find a home at the Kansas Aviation Museum. You can help today by making a financial pledge that will be earmarked for construction of this hanger.

Please join us in this important quest. Here’s how you can help.
